Service Description

Tai chi is an ancient Chinese form of exercise. It involves a series of graceful and (mostly) slow movements, which flow together to create various named ‘forms’. Originally practised as a form of self-defence, it is now widely practised for both its physical and mental health benefits, which include ❖ reduced stress ❖ improved muscle tone and strength ❖ improved balance ❖ improved posture ❖ increased blood flow Regular practise of tai chi provides a great fitness foundation and preparation for more strenuous activities such as skiing. Tai chi can also be a form of meditation, with the constant repetition of movements creating muscle memory and allowing for meditative focus on physical movement and/or breathing. Because tai chi is low impact and tends to place minimal stress on muscles and joints, it is suitable for people of all ages. However, pregnant women or those with fractures, osteoporosis, a hernia or other serious health conditions should consult a medical practitioner before participating. Philip Borrell has practised tai chi for over 30years and has instructed at the Li Wong Tai Chi School in Melbourne.
